Your child's learning journey online
At Flatts Nursery School we use the OPAL (Observing Play and Learning) to track children's learning. We also use Learning Journals as a system to upload observations for you to see at home. The system was specifically developed by nursery schools who value early years and understand the importance of assessing the whole child – their well-being, dispositions, knowledge and skills.
During sessions, we observe children, looking at WHAT they are learning and HOW they are learning. We use these observations to plan next steps for each child.
As a parent you can look at your child's observations online by using the email links sent to you to set a password and then downloading the Learning Journals app. If you need a new email reminder please mention this to your child's key person.
Once you have logged in successfully, you can add your own comments and photographs to share what your child is doing at home. You will also be notified when new observations are uploaded.
IMPORTANT
We aim to publish two observations each half term. It is important to note we do not make lots of recorded observations. As a team we believe “If you are recording the moment you are not in the moment”. We feel our interactions and being “in the moment” with our children is key to good relationships and learning.
We look forward to working in partnership with you all and creating a learning journal which celebrates your child's development.
If you have any problems or issues with this system, please contact your child's Key Person.
